You cannot cancel i-tickets online. An i-ticket can be cancelled from the computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter at the station up to 30 minutes before the original departure of the train.
Moreover, no cash refunds will be made at the counter, IRCTC will credit the amount to the account through which the booking was made. Finally, if TDR is required, it can be obtained from the railway station.
The amount deducted as cancellation charges is based on the status of your ticket.

Cancellation made less than 48 hours to 12 hours before scheduled departure:
Charges are 25% of the total fare of your ticket + GST for all AC classes
Cancellation made less than 12 hours to 4 hours before scheduled departure:
Charges are 50% of the total fare of your ticket + GST for all AC classes
Additionally, you won’t get a refund if the TDR is filed after the given time limit.
No refund is admissible if the TDR is not filed up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
In case the TDR is filed within the time limits refund of fare will be made after deducting the clerkage charge. (Rs. 60 + GST for all AC classes)
In this case, a full refund of fare, less clerkage charge will be admissible for confirmed passengers. This is subject to the condition that the ticket shall be cancelled online or online TDR shall be filed for all the passengers up to thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
If all the passengers are waitlisted even after the final chart is prepared, a full refund will be credited into the account with which the reservation was made after deducting the clerkage charge.
You won’t get a refund against a confirmed tatkal ticket.
You won’t get a refund if you don’t file the TDR up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure.
Moreover, if the TDR is filed within the time limits refund of fare will be made after deducting the clerkage charge. (Rs. 60 + GST for all AC classes)
You will get a full refund if you cancel all the tickets up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure.
If you do not travel, you can get a refund. Provided that you file a TDR at least 4 hours before the train’s departure. If you had a RAC e-ticket, you have to file a TDR at least 30 minutes prior to departure.
You can also file a TDR if the train’s AC was not working. Do it within 20 hours of arriving at your destination.
